About me
I have been fencing since I moved to Nottingham in 1995, learning to fence at Nottingham University. After a year of fencing foil, I began to specialise in sabre. After graduation I joined Chilwell Blades Fencing Club and soon started to coach on the club's beginners' courses.
I compete in local and national events, usually with a sabre. My best results include silver and bronze medals from the East Midlands championships and third place in the 2007 Ashton Open. I have represented Notts and Derby in inter-county competitions a number of times.
As Club Captain for Chilwell Blades, I have organised the Club Championships for several years. I have also organised events for the Notts and Derby Fencing Union.
I hold British Fencing/England Fencing level 2 coaching awards at foil and epee, and a level 3 award at sabre. I am currently coaching at Chilwell Blades, Fernwood Sword and Nottingham High School.
As well as coaching I also tutor for England Fencing. I have lead courses for the Fencing Activity Leader Award and the Go/Fence Teacher scheme, as well as assisting on the recent East Midlands coach development programme.
A member of both England Fencing and the British Academy of Fencing, I am included on the Register of Coaches maintained by British Fencing and am insured and CRB checked.
I am available to coach beginners and experienced fencers (including those who are looking to get back into fencing after a break), school groups and youth groups. I can organise a course of sessions or a one-off event. Sessions can be tailored to fit your needs - for example for Boys Brigade, Scouts or Duke of Edinburgh's Awards.
