Chilwell Blades @ Ellis Guilford

The third term of our Saturday morning sessions will begin on 9 January, running until just before Easter. We fence at Ellis Guilford Sports Centre from 9.30-11.30. David Beck, one of Chilwell's other coaches is often around to provide further coaching. Equipment is available to borrow. There are three parts to the sessions.

Intermediate sabre

We have a small group of intermediate sabreurs (3 children and a parent) who started learning sabre last summer. They have now completed the British Academy of Fencing's Silver proficiency award. This term we will learn some more advanced techniques, as well as beginning to consider tactics and competition preparation. This class runs from 9.30 to 10.30, an new members of a similar standard are always welcome.

Beginners' sabre

This part of the session will be a children's sabre course, aimed at chidren in school years 5-8. Following a warm-up and some games, the children will use full fencing equipment to learn to fence with a sabre - using short blades more appropriate to children of this age. We will complete the Bronze award of the British Academy scheme, providing a base for further training.

Although mainly a children's course, if you would like to learn alongside your child you will be more than welcome to join in.

This class runs from 10.30 to 11.30.

Each of these classes costs £ 5 per week, payable in advance at the beginning of term. (Awards incur a small extra charge.) Places are limited and are only guaranteed on receipt of payment. Please email me for further details.

Open session

Alongside the organised classes, there is always at least one box available for other fencers to come along for some extra practice to start the weekend. The costs is £ 4 per session. Equipment is available.
